Much discussion surrounds the question of the relationship between the Old Testament and the New Testament. This course will focus on the question of how the Old Testament anticipates Christ and how Christians should read the Old Testament in the light of the coming of Christ. Jesus, in Luke 24, claims that the Scriptures (by which he means the Old Testament) was about himself. We will explore the best way to read the Old Testament that both affirms its discrete message as well as uncovers its Christological/telic significance. Examples will be taken from many different parts of the Old Testament including historical narrative, law, wisdom, poets, prophets, and apocalyptic. We will discuss significance for the reading, teaching, and preaching of the Old Testament.
