This is a reading intensive course in which students will first read and consider events that happened between the writing of the testaments; in the second part of the course important historical, religious, and didactic writings from Second Temple Judaism will be examined. Selected literary types and genres that will be addressed include expansions of Scripture, the Apocrypha, pseudo-canonical and pseudepigraphal works, didactic stories, the Dead Sea scrolls, the Septuagint, and secondary scholarly sources.
